Media Release - Township CAO, Derrick Hammond, Retiring After Long Career in Municipal Government

MUSKOKA LAKES, ON – The Township of Muskoka Lakes’ Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Derrick Hammond, announced that he will be retiring this summer.
The majority of CAO Hammond’s thirty-four year career in municipal government, he spent time at the District Municipality of Muskoka, the Township of Lake of Bays, the Town of Huntsville, and finished his career with the Township of Muskoka Lakes.

Reduced Weight Restrictions - 5 Tonnes per Axle

Every year during the period of March 1st to approximately May 31st, all roads under the jurisdiction of the Township of Muskoka Lakes are subject to reduced loads.
Effective Friday March 1, 2024 there is a limit of 5 tonnes per axle. Load restrictions shall remain in effect until Monday, May 31, 2024 or a date determined by staff when the restriction can be safely removed.

Port Carling Retaining Wall Replacement

A portion of the cobblestone retaining wall located below the building at 114 Medora Street failed in December of 2022. The wall is not suitable for a localized repair and full replacement is required to ensure public safety is maintained and to provide a lasting solution for many years to come.

MUSKOKA LAKES, ON – The Township of Muskoka Lakes 2024 Community Grant Program is now open for applicants as part of the municipality’s continuing efforts to support the community. The Township recognizes the valued contributions being provided through the volunteer efforts of community organizations and agencies on behalf of citizens. Municipal grants demonstrate Council’s commitment to working with groups which provide these beneficial programs, services, events or projects to the community.
